Michael and Autism

Michael Curtin was born in July of 1986. He was just 3 months old when he had his first head-to-toe hives reaction to the "safest" of foods-pears. It became obvious over time that Michael's body was hypersensitive not only to most foods, but many things in the environment like grass, trees, pollen, cat hair and blacktop. Changes in temperature, motion, sounds and even light can cause him distress and excruciatingly pain.

Michael was diagnosed with autism when he was a toddler. Through many therapies and sheer determination, Michael overcame many of the challenges of autism. He learned to speak to, and interact appropriately with people. He overcame the many sensory issues that made him a prisoner in his own mind. Michael fell in love with life and demonstrated a remarkable sensitivity and compassion for people. His unshakeable faith in God has touched the hearts of many people.

One challenge that was not so easily overcome was Michael's faulty immune system. As Michael entered adolescence, his body could not hold everything together. He became too exhausted to attend school and developed serious infections usually seen only in people who are severely immune compromised. These unusual infections, low platelet count and IgG subclasses led to a diagnosis of immune deficiency. At 16 Michael was hospitalized with weight loss and diarrhea following a viral illness. He has suffered since that time from Crohn's disease.

In May of 2007 Michael was confirmed to have lyme disease. Michael's body will no longer tolerate the medications that are the standard first line treatment for Crohn's disease. He has developed a chronic circulatory problem in his left leg, and a migrating arthritis that is attacking the knee in his right leg. He suffers from chronic anemia and has to have blood and iron transfusions frequently. The threat of receiving a virus in one of these blood transfusions is very high, and with his compromised immune system, Michael would be unable to fight the infection.

One method of treatment that has shown promise for Michael is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT). HBOT is used to treat a wide range of conditions, with new applications being researched on a continual basis. There are currently fifteen conditions treatable with hyperbaric that are approved by the FDA in the US. As you might expect, these treatments are very expensive and are needed by Michael on a frequent basis. Due to the cost, Michael is currently unable to receive this treatment and as a result is not doing very well physically. I have had the opportunity, along with some members of Banded Brothers, to meet Michael and his mother , Jean Curtin.

Banded Brothers is currently doing some research and investigation on how we might provide some assistance to the Curtin family. One option is to organize a campaign to raise funds ( $20,000.00 ) to purchase a HBOT chamber that could be kept in the home and provide daily treatment for Michael. There is reason to believe with daily treatments that Michael may be able to lead a somewhat normal life after six months of daily treatments.

ALL FEDERAL SHOTS WILL BECOME MANDATORY


Act now to stop the worst vaccine law ever proposed in New York since
the invention of the mandatory schedule. Assembly Bill 10942 would
make all vaccines recommended by the CDC mandatory for all children
to attend school and, and for the first time vaccines would become
mandatory for infants and toddlers.

The bill was introduced in Rules Committee at the request of Richard
Daines, the Commissioner of the New York State Department of Health.
The Rules Committee in the personal committee of the Assembly Speaker
Sheldon Silver (D-Manhattan) .

A-CHAMP is calling for rejection of this bill and is demanding the
passage of A5468/S3031, a bill that would give individuals a right to
a philosophical exemption from vaccine mandates.. This is no time to
transfer vaccine decisions away from individuals and elected
officials answerable to the voters and give it to obscure bureaucrats
with financial ties to the vaccine industry.

Here are a few features of the proposed bill:

· Our elected New York representatives would no longer determine
the mandatory schedule of vaccines to attend school; decisions made
by the federal Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices would
automatically become mandatory.

· All children, infants and toddlers included, in New York would
be required to get all vaccines recommended by the ACIP according to
the ACIP schedule

· All children in New York up to age 18 would be required to get
annual flu shots.

· All girls in New York would be required to get a human papilloma
virus shot.

· All junior high school children and college students would be
required to get meningococcal shots.

· Doctors would be required to issue certificates for every shot
given and parents would be required to maintain the records and
provide them to school and other authorities.

· The rules committee claims that the new laws would have no
fiscal impact on the state despite the necessity of the state to
spend tens of millions on purchasing new vaccines, a vast increase in
mandatory record keeping and enforcement for schools, and a huge
increase that could be expected in the number of cases of
neurological damage, Guillian Barré syndrome and other vaccine-caused
injuries.

We only have a few weeks to defeat this bill. Let your Assemblymember
and State Senator know immediately that a vote for this bill
guarantees that you will do everything you can to get them un-
elected. In addition to emailing and calling your local
representatives, please call Speaker Sheldon Silver and let his staff
know, politely, that this is a disastrous idea. While you are at it
please call Governor David Paterson and let his staff know, politely,
that this is a horrible law.

In 1922, Rene Caisse discovered the herbal recipe and first used it in 1924 on her aunt, who was thought to be in the final stages of inoperable stomach cancer. After two months of drinking the tea, Rene's aunt recovered and lived another 20 years.

Rene began treating cancer patients referred to her by doctors as terminally ill. She reportedly healed thousands from 1920-1940, accepting only voluntary donations for her services. 'The story of Rene Caisse and her life's work with her Indian herbs is told in a book, "Calling Of An Angel" by Dr. Gary L. Glum.

Controversy Over Ojibwa Tea
Late president John Kennedy's personal physician, Dr. Charles A. Brusch, worked with Rene Caisse from 1959 to 1962. He worked with thousands of cancer patients and, after 10 years of research, came to the conclusion that, "Essiac is a cure for cancer period." After making this statement, the Federal government promptly issued a gag order and gave Brusch two choices, either keep quiet or be hauled off to military prison.

The tea has also been used to alleviate Aids. According to Dr. Glum, who worked with the Aids Project in Los Angeles, 'The project sent 179 patients home to die." However, Dr. Glum was given five of these patients. He immediately took them off AZT and DDI, and prescribed the tea 3 times a day. Of the 179, those five are the only ones alive today. They are exercising, eating three meals a day, and their weight is back to normal.

Returning Heroes Untreated

The report revealed that nearly 20 percent of military service members who have returned from Iraq and Afghanistan -- that's 300,000 men and women -- have symptoms of post-traumatic stress or major depression. Of those, only slightly more than half have sought VA treatment. Soldiers say that hesitation to seek help arises from fear that it will harm their careers.

But word gets around. Even among those who do seek help, RAND estimates that only about half receive treatment their researchers consider "minimally adequate." So why bother.

The study also estimates that about 320,000 service members may have experienced a traumatic brain injury during deployment, but that just 43 percent reported ever being evaluated by a physician for that injury, despite DoD's policy that every soldier returning from Iraq be screened
